Dr. Işık AYBAY received
his PhD in
Electrical and Electronic Engineering
from the Middle East Technical
University (METU), Ankara, Turkey in
1989. He was appointed as an Assistant
Professor in 1990 at the same
department. He served in the Faculty
Administrative Council between 1990
and 1993. He was a Fulbright Scholar
for graduate studies and a teaching
and research assistant in the U.S.A.,
between 1981 and 1984, at the
Department of Computer Science, SUNY
at Stony Brook.
In 1994, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Computer Engineering Department of the Eastern Mediterranean University, North Cyprus. He served for 10 years as the chairman, developed both the infrastructure and the academic program, and started MS and Ph.D. programs. The department became the largest in Turkey and North Cyprus. Dr. Aybay played an active
role in
forming the EMU Science Park since
1999 and he is currently its Secretary
General.
He also established the Distance
Education Institute, started blended
online courses and a two-year
information management degree program
over the Internet.
Dr. Aybay was appointed as
an
Associate Professor in October 2007.
He has participated in 14 projects, (4
international projects) including
three, MEDISAT COST-247, and @School,
supported by the European Union. Dr.
Aybay has published 67 papers to date,
and graduated 1 PhD and 21 MS
students.
